MySQL Overview

Follow this guide to create a MySQL user, database, and configure permissions on your cPanel account

Overview

To create a MySQL User, proceed to the Create MySQL User section.
To create a MySQL Database, proceed to the Create MySQL Database section.
To configure MySQL User Permissions to a Database, proceed to the Configure MySQL User Permissions to a Database section.
To allow a remote IP to access the MySQL Database, proceed to the Remote IP Access section.
 

Create MySQL User:

  1. Login to the Client Area.
  1. Click on the Services.

  1. Select your active web hosting service.

  1. On the left sidebar, click Log in to cPanel.

  1. Once you are logged into cPanel, scroll down to Databases, then click MySQL Databases.

  1. From here, scroll down to the MySQL Users section where you can add new users and view current users.

  1. To create a new MySQL user, simply enter the username and password you would like to use for the user.

  1. Once you create the MySQL user, you will see the following.

Create MySQL Database:

  1. Login to the Client Area.
  1. Click on the Services.

  1. Select your active web hosting service.
    1. Notion image
  1. On the left sidebar, click Log in to cPanel.

  1. Once you are logged into cPanel, scroll down to Databases, then click MySQL Databases.

  1. From here, you can create a new MySQL Database. Simply name your new database, then click the Create Database button.

  1. Once you have created your database successfully, you will see a screen that looks like the following.

  1. You can now access your MySQL Database by navigating to the cPanel homepage by clicking the following button.

  1. Once you are logged into cPanel, scroll down to Databases, then click phpMyAdmin.

  1. You will then be navigate to a phpMyAdmin page where you can manage your database.

  1. To import an SQL file, simply select Import as shown below. Once you have uploaded your file, click the Go button.

Configure MySQL User Permissions to a Database:

  1. Login to the Client Area.
  1. Click on the Services.

  1. Select your active web hosting service.

  1. On the left sidebar, click Log in to cPanel.

  1. Once you are logged into cPanel, scroll down to Databases, then click MySQL Databases.

  1. From here, make sure you have a MySQL user already created, then scroll down to Add User To Database.

  1. Select the user and the database you would like to give them permission to access, then click the Add button. You will be brought to a page to manage the user’s permissions within the selected database. Select the desired permissions, then click Make Changes.

  1. If done correctly, you will see a success alert on the top right.

Remote IP Access:

  1. Login to the Client Area.
  1. Click on the Services.

  1. Select your active web hosting service.

  1. On the left sidebar, click Log in to cPanel.

  1. Once you are logged into cPanel, scroll down to Databases, then click Remote MySQL
    1. Notion image
  1. From here, you can Add Access Host and Manage Access Hosts. To allow all connections, insert a % into the Host field and click Add Host.
